Individual Highlights from the Champions League: Anderson (Manchester United), El Hamdaoui & Suarez (Ajax) & Ronaldo & Ozil (Real Madrid)

We have several individual match highlights from Tuesday and Wednesday night in the Champions League.

Manchester United pulled off a smash-and-grab performance in Valencia to get their tournament back on track after a goalless draw with Rangers in matchday one. In truth the Red Devils failed to sparkle for longer periods of the dull encounter, but of the three central midfielder of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Anderson, arguably it was the dreadlocked Brazilian who produced the best shift at the Mestalla.

Anderson seemed to relish the opportunity to play in a more advanced position in the Manchester United set-up as he fashioned chances for his teammates on a couple of occasions. As the game progressed however, Anderson got more and more frustrated as his impact began to wane. Eventually Sir Alex Ferguson hauled off the midfielder in the 77th minute for Javier Hernandez and it was Chicharito who went on to grab the headlines.

The night before Ajax managed to claim a 1-all draw with AC Milan, and one again the Amstersdammers superb strike-force of Mouinr El Hamdaoui and Luis Suarez sparkled.

Although a little wasteful at times, El Hamdaoui bagged the Dutch outfits only goal of the night as he did well to shield the ball before scoring. Aside from his goal though, the forward once again showed an impressive understanding with Suarez. (Highlights here.)

Suarez though was the man of the match. The striker popped up right, left and centre to terrorise the hosts defence with his explosive pace and dribbling. The fact that he managed to nutmeg the great Alessandro Nesta for the goal shows how much confidence he has accumulated in recent years. (Highlights here.)

Tuesday night was positive for Real Madrid as Jose Mourinhos men won 1-nil at! Auxerre . That said, Reals two star playmakers had a night to forget as both Ozil and Ronaldo struggled to find their best form.

The Special One chose to leave Mesut Ozil on the bench from the outset, and when the German international was introduced he had trouble adjusting to the pace of the game and its physical nature. (Highlights here.)

Ronaldo, though, was arguably the flop of the match for Los Blancos. Petulant, unproductive and too greedy, C-Ron was a chief contributor in Madrids inability to score before Di Maria won the game. His shooting was as off key as your uncle singing at the Christmas karaoke. On this form, he is keeping his spot on name alone.
