Individual Highlights from the Champions League: Anderson (Manchester United), El Hamdaoui & Suarez (Ajax) & Ronaldo & Ozil (Real Madrid)

We have several individual match highlights from Tuesday and Wednesday night in the Champions League. Manchester United pulled off a smash-and-grab performance in Valencia to get their tournament back on track after a goalless draw with Rangers in matchday one. In truth the Red Devils failed to sparkle for longer periods of the dull encounter, but of the three central midfielder of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Anderson, arguably it was the dreadlocked Brazilian who produced the best shift at the Mestalla. Anderson seemed to relish the opportunity to play in a more advanced position in the Manchester United set-up as he fashioned chances for his teammates on a couple of occasions. As the game progressed however, Anderson got more and more frustrated as his impact began to wane. Eventually Sir Alex Ferguson hauled off the midfielder in the 77th minute for Javier Hernandez and it was Chicharito who went on to grab the headlines. Andersons highlights for Manchester United can be se

Miss of the Week: Robinho (AC Milan) vs Ajax

The San Jose Earthquakes had a golden opportunity to bury the Chicago Fire and solidify their own hold on a playoff place. The Fire had other plans. Here are highlights from Chicago's victory: What did you think of Chicago's victory? See the Fire making a playoff run now? Wondering if the Earthquakes might struggle down the stretch? Image
By TRAVIS CLARK The first and most likely only year of the USSF Division 2 League is coming to a close. Not much is at stake in the final week of the season -- there is a fight at the top for some of the higher seeds, and of course, a race for first in the SBI Power Rankings. Austin checks back into first place, taking advantage of two straight Rochester losses, and the Aztex now hold the No. 1 seed in the playoff standings as well. Vancouver and Carolina are in a tussle for the NASL Conference, with the Railhawks needing a win to secure the conference and No. 2 seed. Here's a look at this week's power rankings: 1. Austin Aztex (15-5-8) Last Match - Won 4-2 vs. A.C. St. Louis on September 25. Next Match - at Carolina on October 1. Dynamo looks to build on forgettable 2010

Photo by Jose L. Argueta/ISIphotos.com By AVI CREDITOR There's the Juan Pablo Angel game-winning free kick in injury time that caromed off the post, the goalkeeper and into the net. There's the time former team centerpiece Dwayne De Rosario buried a free kick to put a dagger into the team's postseason hopes. Twice. In the same game. Then there's the fact that the team hasn't won two league matches in a row all season. After seemingly being impervious to misfortune, the Houston Dynamo has seen plenty go awry this year and will miss the postseason for the first time since the club moved to Houston from San Jose in 2006. "It''s been hard," Dynamo coach Dom Kinnear said. "There's ebb and flow with MLS, and I really didn't think this would be the year where we'd be where we are. I thought going into this season we'd not only be a playoff team, but a contender for the title, and to see where we're at now, it not only surprises me

I think Wayne [Rooney] will be out for two to three weeks. Sir Alex Ferguson. Runner-up : Fabianski had a good game, we have seen the player who we see in training. He had a faultless game. I know it is in him. He got it out in the game and hopefully that will give him the needed belief and confidence. I am confident he will come out as a great keeper, I have always said that. We have to keep confidence in him and he needs to gain experience from games like this. Arsene Wenger. Todays overview : The Champions League is the background for much of todays news. Keller and the vets leading Sounders playoff charge

Image
Photo by Michael Pimental/ISIphotos.com By JOSE M. ROMERO Back in June, on the eve of the World Cup,there were questions being raisedabout whetherSeattle Sounders goalkeeper Kasey Kellerhad much more left in the tank at age 40. The Sounders floundered to 15 points and were coming off a 3-2 home loss to lowly D.C. United. Keller had a bad game that day. He was responsible for one, if not two of DCU's goals, and after the match, hepledged to work extremely hard to get better. As if a U.S. soccer legend had to apologize for letting his team down, after all the times he'd saved the Sounders and his national team. That's Keller though. Mr. Accountability. And Mr. Pledge Keeper. Keller has picked up his game, so have the Sounders, and after this past Saturday's 1-0 win at Chicago, Seattle is in position for its second playoff berth in two seasons of existence. Only one of the Sounders' four remaining MLS opponents is in mentionable postseason contention, Kansas City. Vete
