Defeats to Arsenal & West Ham can be forgotten if Spurs beat Twente in the Champions League

Tottenham v FC Twente, Champions League, September 29, 2010

Tottenham 1.71; Draw 3.52; FC Twente 4.79

Two games, two draws, both two all. All is to play for in Group A.

Assuming that Inter Milan, the group favourites go through, the most likely competitors for the one remaining place will be Tottenham and FC Twente. IfHarry Redknapps sideharbour any serious ambitions of progressing to the next round, this game is a must win for Harry Rednkapps men.

Since their draw with Werder Bremen, Spurs have recorded a solitary victory against Wolves and lost to both Arsenal and West Ham. The injuries are also mounting. Over the weekend the central defence consisted of Bassong and Corluka arguably the fifth and sixth choice centre backs at the club.

With Michael Dawson a long-term casualty, William Gallas suffering from a torn groin muscle and Younes Kabouls hamstring injury Ledley King will likely be risked despite the Tottenham manager worrying that the player may end up as a cripple.

After a non descript performance at left back, Gareth Bale will return to his best position as a left midfielder but in attack too there are concerns. Aaron Lennon is yet to hit his best form since returning from injury and his performance at the Boleyn Ground was criticised by the media and fans alike.

Without Defoe there is some concern over who will get the all important goals. It is unlikely that Redknapp will use a 4-5-1 formation in a game which he must win so there is a chance that Robbie Keane may start. However, they will rely on Van de Vaart continuing to pull the strings effectively from midfield.

Steve McClaren led FC Twente to the Dutch Championship last season, with Michel Preudhomme replacing the Englishman who left for Wolfsburg this summer.

Twente have started the seaso! n strong ly and are fourth in the Eredivisie after seven games, only four points off the top.

Twente have their own defensive problems to contend with. They will have to make do without the services of versatile defender Dwight Tiendalli as the former Feyenoord starlet has picked up a hip injury and will be sidelined. Preudhomme gave promising youngster Nicky Kuiper an opportunity to stake his claimfor a regular place over the weekend against Ajax.

The Trukkers have another injury problem with Bart Buysse. The Belgian full-back sustained an ankle injury and wont be back in action for another month.

It may cheer Tottenham fans to know that Twente have never won a game on English soil. Their last sojourn ended in a 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in the Europa League.

With the Tottenham faithful behind them, White Hart Lane will be an intimidating place, expect a narrow Spurs win or a dull goaless draw.
