Explain the Decision: Dionisis Chiotis (APOEL) vs Thiago (AEP Paphos)

We encourage anyone to explain away this incredibly bad decision from Cyprus last weekend.

AEP Paphos (playing in yellow) played host to APOEL on Saturday in a match that ended all square at one apiece. Yet the hosts were left hugely disgruntled by a shockingly bad non-decision from the ref deep into injury time.

Pressing for a winner with just seconds remaining, AEPs Brazilian forward Thiago was released into the box by a brilliant through-ball from Vladan Grujic. Immediately APOEL keeper Dionisis Chiotis raced off his line to snuff out the danger but all he ended up doing was to take out the centre-forward with a sliding tackle.

Chiotis made no contact with the ball. Chiotis clearly took out Thiago. Yet amazingly no penalty was given.

The awful challenge can be seen here.
