What Are Your Memories of the 1994 World Cup?

Next Thursday, FIFA will convene in Zurich to name the winners of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids. After pulling out of the running for 2018 to put England in pole position, the United States has focused all of its effort and attention on winning the 2022 bid. Whether it will or not may depend on who's greasing the palms of which FIFA delegates. But that's another story that may be best left for BBC's Panorama, who will be exposing the bribery and corruption on its program this Monday.

The last and only time the United States has hosted the World Cup was in 1994. It has been the most successful tournament ever and featured sold-out matches across the country in front of massive crowds. In the above video, Eric Wynalda shares his memories from the 1994 World Cup. But what are yours? Share your memories in the comments section below.

The 1994 World Cup was an opportunity for me to make my dream of attending a World Cup match a reality. I saw the Netherlands beat the Republic of Ireland on a hot and humid day in Orlando's Citrus Bowl. The whole city of Orlando was filled with fans wearing either green or orange. For once, it seemed like soccer was the only game in town that really mattered. All of the media was covering it with great detail. There were World Cup flags and posters everywhere. It was a joyous time to be a soccer fan as I and others felt like we truly belonged.
