Berbatov joins the five-high Premier League club but Manchester United fail to hit record score v Blackburn
Manchester Uniteds 7-1 win over Blackburn this afternoon doesnt come around every day so where does Dimitar Berbatovs five-goal haul and the margin of victory stand in the all-time record books?
Berbatov, whose previous personal best in one match was four goals for Tottenham v Reading, joins Jermain Defoe, Andy Cole and Alan Shearer with claiming five goals in one Premier League match.
Defoes came in Spurs famous 9-1 win over Wigan last season, Andy Cole claimed five against Ipswich in March 1995 and Alan Shearer notched five in Newcastles 8-0 mauling of Sheffield Wednesday in November 1999.
Ironically, Berbatov had gone 538 minutes without scoring until his opener against Blackburn after just two minutes on the clock.
Sir Alex Fergusons has overseen a number of huge score lines as Manchester United boss in the Premier League era, including the aforementioned 9-0 victory over Ipswich and an 8-1 thrashing at Nottingham Forest in February 1999 (where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored four as a late substitute).
