VIDEO: Carlos Velas Sombrero run (Arsenal-Blackpool)
Theo Walcott may be taking all the plaudits this morning following a hat-trick in Arsenals 6-0 mauling of Blackpool yesterday, but Carlos Vela could well have trumped the England winger with the goal of the game.
Vela was thrown on in the 66th minute by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and had the chance to run at a tired Blackpool backlinefrom a left forward position, in place of Walcott.
The Mexican, who was earlier this week linked with a move to Fulham, which would see Mark Schwarzer finally arrive at Arsenal, went on one superb run which had fans at the Emiratespurring and Mexican TV describing the Sombreros as Vela lifted the ball over three Blackpool defenders.
In many ways, this run from Carlos Vela summed up his Arsenal career, where he has flattered to deceive and rarely found the end product, but as ever, the romantics among us are left wondering how good this goal would have been if he had connected withthe right foot shot at the end of it.
Carlos Velas excellent Sombrero run in the Arsenal-Blackpool match.
Definition alert: A Sombrero is known in French and Spanish football terms as when a player dinks the ball over an opponents head and dashes round to collect it.
