Individual match highlights: Theo Walcott (Arsenal-Blackpool)
He is developing still and maybe what happened to him is part of his development. He was too nervous in front of goal, he rushed his movements. Now he is composed, and once a player feels and understands how to be composed and calm in front of goal, it opens their mind. We forget at what pace he does things, like when het cuts the ball back. When he goes forward he can only cut the ball back because no-one can keep up with him. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
I had a nice break, mentally, through the summer so I could think about things and am pushing on now. I am 21, so I want to play games every week now, it is a big season for me. I have been very unlucky with injuries last season and I am looking out for myself a bit more now. I am one of the last to leave now, always staying behind after training, practising things crosses and set-pieces. It is down to me, so I will look after myself and am raring to go now. Theo Walcott.
The undoubted star of the show for Arsenal in their 6-0 win over Blackpool on Saturday was Theo Walcott. Whilst some Gooners may compare the former Southampton forward to Thierry Henry, Walcott remains a divisive figure.
Nowhere was this more clearly illustrated than on Match of the Day on Saturday night when Alan Hansen praised Walcott but still found time to question whether he had a football brain. (Hansens analysis is on this video from 11.25.)
Whichever side of the divide you fall on, there is no doubt that Walcott was incredible against Blackpool and that is even when you account for the opposition and the fact they were down to 10 men for the majority of the match.
Walcott simply hounded the unfortunate Stephen Crainey and was a threat for the 66 minutes that he lined up in the Arsenal attack until he was replaced by Carlos Vela.
His hat-trick consisted of some fine finishes, the opener a side foot after Arshavin had pla! yed him in, the second a good turn and shot whilst the third was an excellent finish with his lesser used left foot.
If Walcott can add composure in the final third and mature finishing to his game, Arsenal will have a superstar on their hands and against Blackpool he looked like the player who burst to prominence with a hat-trick in Zagreb.
