Top bloopers of the week
The past seven days in professional football has witnessed some terrible misses, cracking own goals and of course some comedy keeping.
Before we get to the bloopers it is worth pointing out that Brede Hangeland proved redemption is often just round the corner after an own goal and Rangers centre back Madjid Bougherra also showed yesterday that defensive players can also cover themselves in glory.
We were fortunate to witness two excellent comedy own goals last week, the first from Jan Lecjaks with a fine left footed finish in Anderlechts Champions League draw with Partizan Belgrade and the second by Aleksandar Kitic, this time a scorcher into the top corner, in Ljunskiles defeat to Sundsvall in the Swedish second division.
Next up is the worst miss of the week and this particular honour goes to USA striker Edson Buddle who somehow managed to miss from under the bar in LA Galaxys 1-0 defeat to San Jose Earthquakes.
It wouldnt be a bloopers round-up without some goalkeeping horror shows. Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios was the benefactor from a Rob Green style screw-up by Karabakh keeper Farhad Veliyev.
Probably the best clip this week comes from Argentina, with River Plate custodian Juan Pablo Carrizo claiming this unfortunate own goal in the 3-2 win over Independiente yesterday. In his defence, it should be pointed out that Carrizo usually displays a lot more skill in his own area.
Finally, there could only be one winner for blooper of the week. Joe Cole followed his sending off on debut at Anfield by missing a penalty against Trabzonspor -can Colescareer in home games on Merseyside get any worse?
