Individual match highlights: Lionel Messi v Sevilla

The superlatives had to be rolled out yet again last night as Lionel Messi put in a master class of a performance to lead Barcelona to a 4-0 win over Sevilla to secure the Spanish Super Cup, 5-3 on aggregate.

Incredibly, despite scoring a hat-trick, PepGuardiola admitted after the game that Messi, along with Xavi and Iniesta, have yet to reach their full potential in terms of fitness for the 2010/2011 campaign.

All eyes have been on The Flea following a World Cup where he failed to score and struggled to lead a woefully unbalanced Argentina side led by Diego Maradona.

Against Sevilla in the Nou Camp, Messi was all smiles again, terrorising the backline of the Copa Del Rey winners predominantly from a right forward position.

Messi scored the second Barcelona goal on 39 thanks to an incredible through ball by Xavi and then added another before the break after great work by Alves, this time with a rare right-footed finish.

The hat-trick, 4-0 win and the Spanish Super Cup were all secured in the 89th minute, Messi tapping home after great build-up play involving debutant David Villa and Andres Iniesta.
