Explain the Decision: Should Andreas Ulland Andersens thumper have been called offside? (Halmstads-Viking)
While most European campaigns are reaching their business ends of the season, over in Scandinavia their gearing up for the start of their new calendar years as the winter months draw to a close.
Accordingly, a bunch of friendly matches are currently being held, and Sunday saw Allsvenskan outfit Halmstads take on the Tippeligaens Viking in a match that the Danes won 2-1. The winner though a stunning free-kick from Andreas Ulland Andersen (pictured) in the 88th minute was hugely controversial.
As the set-play was being lined-up, Viking put a training ground routine into practice as Birkir Bjarnason stood yards in front of the Halmstads keeper. Bjarnason hand-picked his possession to perfection as he stood straight in the eye-line of the custodian. However Bjarnason was also clearly standing in an offside position with all the Halmstads defenders were positioned in front of him.
Andreas Ulland Andersen then proceeded to crack a beauty into the far top corner, a goal good enough to win any game, but it left Halmstads coach Pep Ruiz fuming at an offside which was never given. Pep then accused the referee of not knowing the rules of the game as a bitter row broke out.
