Dumbass of the Week: Ruben Garcia (Ontinyent) vs CD Denia
In a week where knowledge of the rules of football has been placed under the spotlight by Masseygate, we can bring you a brilliantly-bad piece of footage in which a dumbass goalie forgot the rules on handling the ball.
The action comes from last Saturdays Spanish third tier match between CD Denia and Ontinyent.
On the half hour, in the most routine of routine passages of football, the ball trickled into the safe hands of Ontinyent keeper Ruben Garcia. Everything was hugely and almost boringly normal, as with the ball in his grasp Ruben Garcia seemed ready to kick the ball upfield.
Only he didnt kick the ball. Rather he ran, and ran, and continued running outside his box while still holding the ball in one of the best/worst/maddest handball incidents of the season.
After racing 25-yards from his goal line the referee finally blew his whistle to bizarre events, which in turn sparked a second moment of madness. Instead of releasing the ball, Ruben Garcia continued to hug the ball as he jogged back into his goalmouth after the decision had been given against him.
And then came the twist that left CD Denia fuming. Ruben Garcia was only booked for his behaviour rather than being sent off.
That non-sending off was felt even more sharply in the 79th minute when home keeper Ivan Vidal committed a terrible blunder to allow a shot to squirm under his body for the only goal of the game.
The full Ruben Garcia/mental handball incident can be seen here.

Weve witnessed some other crazy handball incidents this season already.
Back at the end of November Nordsjaellands Anders Bjelland gave award a terrible spot-kick to FC Copenhagen for this idiotic handball in a crowded penalty box, while just a few weeks ago Boston Uniteds Rory Coleman managed to get away with the most blatant handball ever against Gloucester City with arguably the most controversial save of the season.
