Rubens Sambueza assaults a ref during a Mexican friendly (Estudiantes Tecos-Atlas)
It was suppose to be a friendly tournament to celebrate the 50th year of the Estadio Jalisco the home of Mexican outfit Atlas but instead the exhibition game descended into controversy as Tecos midfielder Rubens Sambueza assaulted the ref after collecting his marching orders.
The red mist took over Sambueza when the number 14 was flashed two yellow cards in the space of a minute. Furious at the bookings, which were undoubtedly heavy-handed from referee Roman Rafael Medina, Sambueza immediately lost his cool at set upon the man in black.
Then, in an unacceptable act of aggression, Sambueza attacked ref Medina by hitting him in chest/face and forcing the official onto his knees.
According to local reports Rubens Sambueza is now set to be sanctioned by the Mexican FA, and the Argentine is set to be banned at the start of the new season.
