Last Sundays win over Blackburn has cautiously infused optimism around Anfield again. The NESV takeover was swiftly followed by the downer of losing at Merseyside rivals Everton, so a good attacking performance against Sam Allardyces side has restored a little faith in Roy Hodgsons regime.

Bolton though are far from pushovers and considering they sit eighth in the Premier League and appear to be improving all the time under Owen Coyle could argue with the bookies that they are in fact the favourites to win this match.

The Trotters have not lost in the league since early September at Arsenal which was their only Premier League defeat of the 2010/2011 campaign. Bolton have also produced some hugely creditable performances, including the 2-2 draw with Manchester United where they took the lead twice.

In short, the Reebok Stadium is never an easy place to go, but this season there is plenty of optimism about, they are firmly established as a mid-table side looking up and have players who can do damage to what is still likely to be a frail Liverpool defence.

When looking at their attacking threats, the obvious place to start is Johan Elmander who has had a terrific start to the campaign, claiming five league goals and his partnership with Kevin Davies will be massively important. Besides the Swede and new England international, the likes of Stuart Holden, Martin Petrov and Chung-Yong Lee can all create from the middle of the park.

There will be some doubt over the involvement of Ivan Klasnic after he was arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning and subsequently bailed on suspicion of rape.

Boltons defence is also solid, featuring one of the stand-out defenders in the league in G! ary Cahi ll. Fernando Torres may have scored against Blackburn, but he could be in for a frustrating afternoon on Sunday.

Liverpool would go level on points with Bolton if they can win but at the same time the next week features tricky home games against Napoli and Chelsea which could see any positive energy dissolved rather quickly.

The Merseyside giants do have a good record at Bolton, having won on their last three visits and if the front three of Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres can fire they undoubtedly have the ability to win the match. The score line very much flattered Blackburn last week and but for Paul Robinson, Liverpool would have achieved a much more morale-boosting score line.

One of the key players for Liverpool this season, at both ends of the pitch, has been Sotirios Kyrgiakos. The Greek defender is second top scorer, level with Fernando Torres, on two goals and his aerial ability will be key at Bolton. There has also been much transfer speculation surrounding the likes of Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres in the past few days but one would imagine the two Spaniards are used to that by now.

This is a hugely tricky game for Roy Hodgsons side and you cant help feeling Liverpool have been dealt a bad hand but if they can win at Bolton, the 2010/2011 season will be really up and running. The smart money is on a draw.
