Individual Match Highlights: Bebe (Manchester United) vs Wolves
Bebes goal was a bit fortunate but he did the right thing, he attacks the defender and it was either going to be a really good cross or, as it turned out, a deflection into the net. It was a good full debut for the boy. Hes been improving physically over the last few weeks and were very pleased with his potential. Hes brave, hes quick and hes a good crosser of the ball. Its always difficult when you dont speak the language. He hasnt mastered that yet, hes getting his lessons twice a week. Its going to take time. Settling into Manchester United as a young boy does take time. Sir Alex Ferguson.
So Bebe is off the mark. Sort of.
The former homeless footballer remains a story with plenty of mileage, while onlookers continue to reserve judgment over Manchester Uniteds 7.4m signing from Sporting Lisbon. On Tuesday night Bebe got a run-out in front of a packed Old Trafford in the Carling Cup against Wolves and, skipping to the conclusion, he did OK.
The Portuguese, clearly aware of his amazing rags-to-riches story, would have known every eye in the Theatre of Dreams as well as in the wider world would be examining his every touch in the contest. To his credit though Bebe managed to answer many of those questions levelled at him as he not only notched his first Manchester United goal (with the help of an Elokobi deflection), but he also showed plenty of promise with quick feet and turbo-boosted sprints down the right hand side.
It wasnt all strawberries and ice-cream however. On the downside, it took Bebe a while to get into his groove against Wolves. Early on his touch was far from immaculate while some of his crosses also left a lot to be desired in a mixed showing.
