Individual Match Highlights: Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls) vs Tottenham

Forty-five minutes was all Thierry Henry got on his New York Red Bulls debut against Tottenham, but that was more than enough time for him to steal the morning headlines with a dazzling performance.

Whether it was his pure competitive determination to get his New York career off to a flyer, or whether the former Arsenal forward was that much more hyped to play against the old Spurs enemy, Henry was superb in the first half of the exhibition contest.

The 32-year-old striker first major contribution arrived in the 11th minute when flicked a ball with the outside of his boot around Tottenhams Kyle Walker before lashing a shot wide of Carlo Cudicinis right hand post.

But, without a doubt, the moment of the match for Henry came 24 minutes and 55 seconds into the first half when he met a low left-sided cross from midfielder Joel Lindpere inside the danger area and he applied a deft touch to steer the ball into the far post.

With the ball nestled in the net, Henry immediately being playing up to his new supporters as he pounded on his chest, growled with glee, and then was mobbed by his teammates in the euphoric celebration. Neither Henry nor the Red Bulls could have wished for a better start to his MLS career.

While the goal was the highlight, Henrys vision and touch against Tottenham was also hugely encouraging. As his new cohorts kept feeding him with the ball, Henry lapped up the responsibility of playing in a far more central position than he usually occupied for either Arsenal or Barcelona with a mixture of inventive passes and more subtle ball retention skills.

After the match Thierry Henry was buzzing with joy, spouting Just amazing. Id say the reception was tremendous. Every time I touched the ball, when I came out, when I scored. It is important for me to feel at home.
