Lionel Messi claimed his fifth La Liga hat-trick in Barcelonas 8-0 win at Almeria on Saturday night in another sensational performance that has left the whole world licking their lips ahead of El Clasico next Monday and the individual battle with Cristiano Ronaldo. The statistics are quite staggering. The Fleahas now scored 101 Great Goals (sorry!) in the Spanish top flight and is now ranked fourth in Barcelonas all-time top goalscorers list at only 23. Samuel Etoo is swiftly coming into view on 108 goals.

Messi was at the heart of the joint highest ever away win in La Liga, scoring the opener after a fine backheel from David Villa and then adding the fifth after a give-and-go with Pedro.

Barcelona were relentless again in the second half with Messi teeing up Bojan Krkic for number six, completing his hat-trick for number seven and then grabbing another assis as Bojan slid in the eighth goal of a remarkable match.

Roll on next Monday and El Clasico
