A brilliant goal you wont have seen: Mikkel Thygesen (FC Midtjylland) vs Odense

If a more high-profile player like Cristiano Ronaldo had scored a free-kick like this then the worlds media would be drowning in their own drool this Tuesday.

Monday night in Denmark saw Odense rally from two goals down against FC Midtjylland to win a pulsating contest 3-2. Ken Ilso (10) and Mikkel Thygesen (56) seemed to have set the visitors on their way to a comfortable victory. But Odense hit back through Peter Utaka (57) and an own goal from Erik Sviatchenko ten minutes later before Espen Ruud snatched the winner in the closing stages.

It was Mikkel Thygesens goal though that deserves special mention.

Facing a free-kick from fully 35-yards and in a dead-central position, the Midtjylland number ten opted to ignore all his teammates standing in the penalty box and instead go directly for goal. The outcome could barely have been better executed as Thygesen reeled off a howitzer which few keepers on the planet could have saved.
