Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger appears to have won his race to be fit for Sunday’s World Cup 2010clash against England, after taking part in a full training session with his team mates.

The industrious midfielder was considered a major doubt for the last 16 game after injuring his thigh in the 1-0 win over Ghana on Wednesday.

However, the 25-year-old could now feature in the match after proving his fitness at the German's training base in Pretoria.

The news provides some welcome relief for coach Joachim Low, who has concerns elsewhere regarding his team selection. Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng is a doubt, while striker Cacau has been ruled out with a stomach muscle problem.

Germany did confirm that Schweinsteiger faced a race against time to be fit for the clash against their old enemy, but German TV station ZDF - who are reporting from the training camp - believe the midfielder will start against the Three Lions having been spotted wearing the shirt of the first eleven during a training match.

However, their report is contradictory with news that defender's Boateng and Holger Badstuber were also seen wearing the shirts.
